I'm Worth Defending [IWD]
I’M WORTH DEFENDING (IWD) is a modern Anti-Rape Self-Defense program based in Nairobi Kenya. This program is designed to empower women, girls and children from being raped through Self-Defense, Assertiveness and Boundaries Setting training, counsel rape survivors and to sensitize teenage boys to responsible and respectful behavior towards women and girls. IWD arms women, girls and children against rape and endangerment.
Our Vision
We envisage a society where every woman, girl and child is safe from rape and other forms of Sexual and Gender Based Violence.
Mission:
I’m Worth Defending’s (IWD) mission is rape prevention, reaching women, girls and children before rapist does. We educate individuals and the public about issues related to personal safety and more so on how to prevent rape.
IWD’s training is centered on providing appropriate information, and training to women, girls and children geared towards self-protection and self-defense skills to avoid, resist, and survive situations ranging from low levels of aggression to extremely violent assault. The training is intended to impart vital lessons on how to defend oneself and learn how not to be victims.
Our Mission Statement (Goal):
Until every woman and girl is safe, I’m Worth Defending (IWD) will empower women, girls and children to realize their dignity and to act on their strength.
There are thousands and thousands of women who are at risk in the slums alone. We work with commercial sex workers and do community outreach classes at a time of their choice. Creation of more meeting places for women to learn safety strategies, do hands on training, and learn the elements of assertiveness training. These classes serve ALL women from every class spectrum.
