Rose Mapendo, the main protagonist of the film, Pushing the Elephant looks towards her home in the DRC.

Rose Mapendo is a central character in the film Pushing the Elephant. It tells the heart wrenching story of her 12-year separation from her daughter Nangabire during the war in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The two are now reunited and live in the United States, where Mapendo has become an advocate for stopping atrocities against women in the DRC.
