Rwanda Adopted a Declaration on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

On 24 November 2011, the Chamber of Deputies adopted in plenary session a declaration on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

UN Women is supporting a project in Rwanda to provide legal and medical services to widows who survived the 1994 genocide. The project specifically focuses on providing services to widows with HIV/AIDS, thousands of who were systematically raped by HIV-infected men during the genocide to spread the virus.

UN in Rwanda Encourages Men and Boys to Act against Gender Violence

UN WOMEN offices across the Central Africa Region were involved in this year’s 16 Days of Activism against Violence campaign, which takes place annually from 25 November 2009, International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, to 10 December 2009, International Human Rights Day.

Rwanda: Women Ex-Combatants Advocate for Peace and Rights

In Rwanda, the Forum for Activists Against Torture (FACT) has used a UN Trust Fund grant to work with women ex-combatants on raising awareness about women’s human rights and the devastating impact of gender-based violence, including high rates of HIV/AIDS among women.
